Oliv's Slack bot manages your Slack status and "Do Not Disturb" settings automatically based on your calendar. Oliv can also auto respond and take messages / escalate urgent requests when you are unavailable for a longer period of time.

The Slack bot's behavior is completely customizable. You can get started using the 3 simple steps below.

Step 1: Tweak the default settings for various event types

Oliv supports various types of events, including meetings, "focus time", travel, short out of office (eg. doctor's appointments), long out of office (eg. vacations) and work from home.

You can change the default behavior of the Slack bot for each type of event in the "Default event settings" tab at https://app.oliv.ai.

Tweak the Slack bot behavior

You can enable/disable the status updates, change the emoji and text template for the them and also enable/disable Slack's "do not disturb" for the duration of the event.

For example,

Enable the Slack and email auto responder

Oliv can auto respond for you in Slack and manage your Gmail / Outlook email auto responder as well.

We recommend enabling the Slack auto responder for short and long out office events and the email auto responder for long out of office events at least. Many users enable the auto responder for focus events and some enable it for meetings as well.

For example,

Oliv will ask you for additional permissions when you enable them for the first time. These permissions are needed for the auto responder to work.

Step 2: Enable the chrome extension

Note: This step is for Google Calendar and Chrome users. If you have an Outlook account or use Safari / Firefox to browse the web, skip to step 3.

Oliv's chrome extension makes it easy to create one time or recurring events and tweak Oliv's settings for them directly in Google Calendar.

Click below to install Oliv's chrome extension from Chrome web store. Don't worry, the link will open in a new tab and you will not loose progress here.

Step 3: Create a test event and tweak Oliv's settings for it

If you use Google Calendar and Google Chrome

Go to Google calendar and create a new event like you usually do. Oliv will enable you to specify the type of event and tweak the settings for the particular event, starting with the defaults you specified in Step 1.

If you use Outlook or Safari / Firefox to browse the web

You can use Oliv's plans page to create and edit upcoming plans and tweak the settings for the particular plan, starting with the defaults you specified in Step 1.

Next steps

Congratulations! Oliv's Slack bot is now enabled and setup for your account.

Next, learn more about how Oliv can auto respond and take messages / escalate urgent requests when you are unavailable for a longer period of time.
